U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) visited Iowa to attend an Iowa GOP hosted reception at the Mason City Municipal Airport in an interview-style chat were many Republican politicians spoke on current issues facing the nation and helped raise money for the GOP.

The Globe Gazette reported that the main topics of discussion included the continuing situation in Afghanistan as the U.S. works to finish pulling troops and criticizing President Joe Biden's handling of the situation.

While attending the GOP event, Rudio faced some criticism from his home state.

"Rubio is in Iowa and DeSantis is in NJ. Meanwhile, Florida is literally losing residents daily. They don’t even pretend to care," retired teacher Mary Kelly wrote in an Aug. 30 tweet in response to the Florida Democrats post concerning Rubio and COVID-19's deadliest spike for the state.

Rubio attended the event as he was asked to be the keynote speaker at the GOP breakfast, which was held on Aug. 31, Radio Iowa reported.

Rubio, who ran for the presidency in 2016 but only received 23.1% of the Iowa Republican caucus vote causing him to finish third, said he does not know if he will for the presidency again in the future, Radio Iowa reported.

As for now, Rubio said that he is going to focus on winning the 2022 midterm elections to secure his position in Florida and continue to serve as a U.S. senator, according to Radio Iowa.
