Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, posted a series of tweets on October 7, 2025, criticizing Senate Democrats for their handling of federal law enforcement appointments and government operations.

In his first post, Grassley wrote, “Sen Republicans just confirmed 16 US Attys Democrats had been holding up incl noms they HELPED SELECT Republicans will continue 2prioritize Americans’ safety over Democrats’ partisan games” (October 7, 2025).

Grassley continued in a subsequent tweet, “For 9 MONTHS Democrats hv denied their communities’ top fed law enforcement officials amid mass shootings/attacks on fed facilities/political assassination of Charlie Kirk Dems’ partisan obstruction & unwillingness to accept last yrs election put Americans in harm’s way” (October 7, 2025).

In a later post, Grassley added, “2nite Senate GOP delivered w 107 confirmations of Pres Trump’s nominees We are committed to seeing America thrive+ Pres Trump succeed Right now Senate Democrats are committed to shuttering ur govt & floundering in the Schumer Shutdown BIG DIFFERENCE” (October 7, 2025).

Grassley’s remarks come amid ongoing partisan tensions in the U.S. Senate regarding judicial and law enforcement appointments. The confirmation of U.S. Attorneys and other key federal officials often becomes contentious when one party controls the Senate and another holds the presidency. Delays or blockages in confirmations have been a recurring issue in recent years.

The mention of a “Schumer Shutdown” refers to accusations from Republicans that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his caucus are responsible for an impasse that could lead to a government shutdown, a scenario that has occurred several times over the past decade due to disagreements over budget and policy priorities.

Senator Grassley, who has served in the U.S. Senate since 1981, is known for his frequent commentary on legislative proceedings and judicial nominations.
