Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives and is a Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, recently addressed several policy initiatives and legislative actions on his official Twitter account.

On December 10, 2025, Nunn announced his leadership on new legislation to extend the CHAMPVA filing window for military families. In his post, he stated: “No military family should lose coverage because a government office moved too slowly. I’m leading a new bill with @RepDonDavis to extend the CHAMPVA filing window to a full year, so families in Iowa and across the country have the time they need to access the benefits they’ve” (December 10, 2025). The CHAMPVA program provides health coverage for eligible veterans’ families, and delays in processing paperwork can result in lapses of coverage.

Later that day, Nunn commented on recent monetary policy changes by the Federal Reserve. He wrote: “The Fed’s rate cut is the right move—and welcome news for Iowa homebuyers. As mortgage rates drop, we’re working to cut red tape, fix outdated programs, and deliver bipartisan solutions that make homeownership more affordable.” (December 10, 2025). Lower interest rates typically lead to reduced borrowing costs for homebuyers.

In another update posted on December 10, 2025, Nunn highlighted legislative progress related to defense spending. He said: “The House just passed the NDAA with key wins I helped deliver for Iowa, including a 4% pay raise for our servicemembers. As a twenty-year combat veteran and current Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, I will never waver in defending our national security. That means securing the”. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is an annual federal law specifying budget and expenditures for the Department of Defense.

Zach Nunn’s posts reflect ongoing efforts among lawmakers to address issues affecting military families’ benefits eligibility timelines as well as broader economic policies aimed at supporting homeowners through lower interest rates. The passage of this year’s NDAA included provisions such as pay increases for service members—an issue that has been central to debates about compensation within the armed forces.
