Senate Judiciary Committee advances judicial and attorney nominations

The Senate Judiciary Committee has moved forward with several judicial and prosecutorial nominations. On October 1, 2025, the committee voted on five nominees for key positions in federal courts and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Jennifer Lee Mascott was nominated to serve as a United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit. Her nomination advanced with a 12-10 vote. Edmund G. LaCour, Jr. was nominated to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama and received the same vote tally. Bill Lewis, nominated for the Middle District of Alabama, advanced by a vote of 14-8. Harold D. Mooty III, also nominated for the Northern District of Alabama, was approved by an 18-4 margin.

In addition to judicial appointments, David Courcelle was nominated to serve as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana and advanced with a 14-8 vote.
