Iowans have been experiencing delays in their tax refunds due to extenuating circumstances, WHO TV reports.
“When we said we were going to slow down refunds, perhaps people didn't believe us or they didn't know what that meant, so we've been working harder this year to make sure that we communicate we're doing that again," Iowa Department of Revenue Director Courtney Kay-Decker said in 2018.
When the problem was resolved, Iowa was still unable to pay the refunds due to an insufficient amount of money to pay Des Moines residents.
On average, the delays are expected to be between 30 to 45 days after a return has been filed. Some people have even waited up to eight weeks to receive their tax returns. Government officials are working on the issue, reports said.
