The Financial Center on 666 Walnut St. in Downtown Des Moines is scheduled to be renovated into a hotel.
It is a $59.3 million plan covering half of the building’s 25 floors.
The owner, Lawmark Capital, said they are currently discussing bringing the 190 hotel rooms in under a national brand, who they will not announce yet. The project is anticipated to cover high-class amenities like a restaurant on the ground floor, a bar on the roof and meeting rooms for guests and the public.
“When Wells Fargo made the announcement they were going to vacate it put us in a pretty challenging position because our experience to date told us it would be very difficult to fill this building with office space when we still had floors available," CEO Mark Buleziuk said according to Des Moines Register. "So we had to come up with something very different to make this a viable asset."
Currently, the Financial Center has a 70% vacancy. It opened in 1972, and it is known for its colorful lights. Floors one through 13 will be made into a hotel.
