As four-year institutions make modifications, some families are looking at community colleges as an alternative.
Des Moines Area Community College is making changes to the way it delivers instruction, according to DMACC President Rob Denson.
“This is a year of uncertainty, so the safe bet is to look at your local community college, just delay leaving your folks for one year. Because it just makes sense,” Denson said.
There will be fewer in-person classes. Most of those would be career and tech programs.
Online-only classes will also be available, as will real-time virtual courses, which are taught online but will meet at specific times.
“We're giving students every option there is out there and we're going to be ready to flex as we need to,” Denson said.
Denson said fall enrollment is down, but he expects it to pick up before classes start.
