Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement on Sept. 29.
Steinkamp previously worked as the Director of Enrollment at Buena Vista University (BVU)
DMACC Carroll Campus Provost Dr. Joel Lundstrom said Steinkamp's experience at BVU, one of DMACC's main partners, would help students be better prepared for a four-year track.
Steinkamp has worked in higher education for a number of years, with a focus on advising and enrollment.
Steinkamp lives in Breda with her husband and two young children.
DMACC is pleased to welcome Maggie Steinkamp of Breda as the new Academic Advisor at the DMACC Carroll Campus. In this position, she will be helping Carroll Campus students achieve their academic and career goals.
Steinkamp has worked in higher education in the past. She spent several years at Buena Vista University as an administrative assistant, education coordinator/advisor, assistant director and, most recently, as Director of Enrollment.
“We have worked with Maggie for years during her time at Buena Vista University and are now thrilled to welcome her to our DMACC team," said Dr. Joel Lundstrom, Provost of the DMACC Carroll Campus. “Her experience with one of our main education partners will help our students to be better prepared for a four-year track. Her integrity and work ethic was highlighted by all her references, and we are already seeing that every day as she works with students."
The DMACC Carroll Campus and Buena Vista University 2+2 Program allows DMACC students to complete their first two years of study at DMACC, and then continue their education by taking evening classes from BVU on the DMACC Carroll Campus, online or in a blended-class format. Through this well-established partnership, students can earn their bachelor's degree from BVU in as little as two years and without needing to relocate, which is especially helpful for students who may be place-bound due to family or work commitments.
“As an advisor at DMACC, I'm excited to get to know our students and help them achieve their academic and career goals," Steinkamp said.
Steinkamp and her husband, Brian, have two kids—three-year-old Avery and nine-month-old Carter. She said she keeps busy with her children and enjoys baking, spending time at the lake, reading and working on do-it-yourself projects.
