West Central Iowa Family Owned Business Makes Donation to the DMACC Foundation for the Carroll Campus Expansion Project
“Their investment in DMACC will Provide Opportunities for Students Throughout the Carroll and West Central Iowa Area"
The 11,700 square foot addition should be completed by August of 2021.
McLaughlin Family Companies, a Scranton, Iowa-based family owned company with 12 different industry-leading product lines, has made a $75,000 donation to the DMACC Foundation to be used for the DMACC Carroll Campus expansion project.
The donation will specifically go to fund the new Welding Lab being built on the Carroll Campus.
Construction on the 11,700 square-foot, $4.2 million dollar project began in July. The new addition will include:
A Welding Lab
Applied Engineering Classes and Lab
An indoor Commons Area for both college and community events
“This generous donation by a family-owned and operated local business is significant to the DMACC Carroll Campus," DMACC Carroll Campus Provost Dr. Joel Lundstrom said. “The McLaughlin Family Companies and specifically Scranton Manufacturing have been great partners for years with internships and student tours. We are excited about this contribution to the Carroll expansion project and appreciate their contribution to support our ability to offer quality low-cost educational opportunities."
DMACC President Rob Denson said the McLaughlin Family Companies are known for manufacturing world class products such as mobile vet clinics, animal transport units, refuse trucks and trash compactors.
A few of these product lines include: Bowie International™, Fast Lane Motor Parts™, Hurricane Motorsports™, New Way Ford™ and New Way® Trucks, a garbage truck brand that is the largest private manufacturer of refuse equipment in North America.
“They also bring jobs and new opportunities to smaller communities like Scranton," Denson said. “I think their investment in DMACC will provide opportunities for students throughout the Carroll and West Central Iowa area and provide for a well-trained and educated workforce."
“Welding is not only important to our company but it is a critical skill that helps drive our nation's economy," said Mike McLaughlin, CEO of the McLaughlin Family Companies. “Approximately 70 percent of all manufactured goods are welded and that is why schools like DMACC and projects like this Welding Lab are so important to local communities. We are proud to support this project in Carroll and excited to play a vital role in its completion. Students taught at the new McLaughlin Family Companies-sponsored Welding Lab will be trained in a valuable trade skill that will help them secure a bright future."
The Carroll Campus expansion is part of a larger vision across the district to improve the student experience at DMACC. The College is also currently building a new Student and STEM Center on the Urban Campus; a new Automotive Technology Center and Criminal Justice Training House on the Ankeny Campus; and a new Student Activities Center on the Boone Campus.
The Carroll addition is expected to be completed in August 2021.
