Des Moines Area Community College issued the following announcement.
The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and Innovate Iowa on May 13, 2021 announced an educational grant of $5,000 to Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) as part of their STEM Talent Pipeline grants. The virtual announcement was made by representatives from DMACC as well as keynote comments by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst and remarks by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.
“I'm so proud to be a part of this grant announcement. This will undoubtedly be a great way to engage with Iowa's next generation of leaders and encourage young girls to pursue jobs in the STEM field," said Senator Joni Ernst. “The STEM field is changing and expanding every day with opportunities we couldn't have even imagined 10 or 15 years ago, so it's very exciting to think about the great work these students have ahead of them. We've seen workers in STEM fields leading the charge to develop treatments and vaccines for COVD-19 this past year, which is why it's so vital to support Iowa's STEM students today."
PhRMA and Innovate Iowa partnered with DMACC to award this vital funding to create DMACC's new Innovate Iowa Girls STEM Day. The event will be held this fall on the DMACC campus and 90 girls from area middle schools will be invited to attend to learn more about STEM education and opportunities.

On behalf of DMACC's over 36,000 students we would like to thank PhRMA and Innovate Iowa for this amazing opportunity to help educate our next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics."
