Volunteers are needed to help an adult improve his or her literacy skills
- The DMACC Urban Campus Offers a Free Two-Hour Training Session to Demonstrate How to Support Adults’ Literacy Learning.
- Volunteers Meet One-to-One to Assist Adults with Literacy Learning.
- Volunteer Training Sessions are Offered at Three Different Upcoming Times.
The ALC serves any adult who needs to improve reading, writing and or speaking skills. To refer someone for services, use the contact information listed below.
“Our program volunteers perform a life-changing, life-improving service to many people throughout our community,” said Dr. Anne Howsare-Boyens, Provost of the DMACC Urban Campus. “It’s an important and very rewarding experience for everyone involved.”
Volunteer responsibilities:
- Attend a 2-hour training session on the DMACC Urban Campus or virtually to learn how to support adults' literacy learning
- Meet 1½ hours a week with an assigned adult at a time that is convenient for you and your student
- Meet virtually or in person at the DMACC Urban Campus, at an area library or other public sites in the community
- Make a one-year commitment to meet with your assigned adult student
Volunteer training sessions are scheduled for (choose one):
- Tues., Aug. 17th from 10 a.m. to noon
- Tues., Aug. 17th from 1 to 3 p.m. or
- Wed., Aug. 18th from 5 to 7 p.m.
