Iowa beat out Iowa State in the much-anticipated Cy-Hawk game Sept. 11. The two teams have a historic rivalry and were neck and neck in the Associated Press’s top 10, making it an exciting and high-stakes game.
This game has been called the “biggest game in the history of the rivalry” by ESPN.
“NEW! A key defensive play by Jestin Jacobs and Jack Campbell broke a tight Cy-Hawk game open and set Iowa on the path to a sixth straight win over Iowa State,” Go Iowa Awesome tweeted Sept. 13 following the game.
The score for the game was 27-17, leaving Iowa in a much better position than the team that they dominated, The Daily Iowan reported.
Iowa linebacker, Jestin Jacobs, explained that the emotion of the game was intense, saying it was difficult to explain, ESPN reported.
Iowa’s coach, Kirk Ferentz, said that he makes a point to not look at the polls much, and rather focuses on team-building, which is perhaps why the team performed so well in a high-pressure game.
Iowa is proud of their victory, which brings their winning streak up to five, which is more wins in a row against ranked opposing teams since 1960, ESPN reported. The winning 22-yard field goal was hit by Caleb Shudak.
