Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley was one of only 19 Republicans to vote yes on President Joe Biden’s $1.2 trillion Build Back Better bill, Radio Iowa reported. Grassley is in his seventh term as an Iowanian senator. He is also the only representative from Iowa to vote yes on the bill.

Biden signed the infrastructure bill into law Nov. 15. The goal of the much-contested bill is to allocate funds to states and overhaul their most integral systems, from roads and education to high-speed internet. Iowa could be the sole recipient of as much as $5 billion in federal funds, Radio Iowa reported. Over $300 million will be allocated to repair bridges across the state, the Iowa Torch reported.

Replying to Grassley, Twitter user KarResists said: “3…2…1 until Grassley takes credit for the federal money that will go to Iowa. Republicans FAILED to deliver Infrastructure as promised under Trump’s administration and overwhelmingly voted against Biden’s bill.”

Rep. Ashley Hinston recently called the bill “a raw deal for Iowans,” The Iowa Torch reported.

“So targeted infrastructure spending is where we need to be. And unfortunately, having those two bills (infrastructure and the Build Back Better bill) tied together was a poison pill,” she said.

The Build Back Better bill will work to improve the country’s infrastructure over the next five years.
