DMACC Carroll Campus Career Advantage Coordinator Jen Wollesen of Lake View has been named the Iowa School Counselor Association Advocate of the Year Award winner.

The School Counselor Advocate of the Year recognizes an individual or group whose advocacy of school counseling services has had a positive effect on school counseling on a local, state or national level.

Nominees for the award can be current or past school counselors, principals, parents, school board members, legislators or state or local organizations that have advocated or provided opportunities for professional school counselors.

The award was presented at the 2021 Iowa School Counselor Association (ISCA) conference recently held in Des Moines.

“Jen works closely with our area high school counselors and knows the heavy work schedules of these counselors as they prepare their students for life beyond high school,” DMACC Carroll Campus Provost Dr. Joel Lundstrom said. “She is respected by everyone she works with. Jen is clearly deserving of this prestigious accolade within the Iowa School Counselor Association. Jen’s work with the Local College Access Network (LCAN) is helping area students to get into college, complete FAFSA’s, and many other goals focused on improving college attainment. Her work with these students goes beyond DMACC and concurrent enrollment opportunities.”

Wollesen was nominated for the award by Audubon Middle and High School Counselor Courtney Walter.

“Jen is an incredibly valuable asset to my School Counseling program at Audubon High School,” Walter said. “In a rural area, we have the same access to support and resources for our students as other areas of the state and Jen is a big part of making that happen. Her ideas and creativity have made my job as a school counselor easier, and more fun. But most importantly she helps create positive outcomes for our students.”
