Iowa's wrestling team gave an exemplary performance in which they beat No. 13 Iowa State on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the annual Corn Cy-Hawk Series.
“This isn’t about a catalyst to springboard for greater things to come," Iowa head coach Tom Brand, according to Hawkeye Sports. "This is a step along the path to Detroit. That’s how we operate. We’re going to Destin, Florida, two weeks from tonight.”
Iowa won six of the 10 matches they played.
The win at the dual places the Iowa Hawkeyes at their 21st straight overall and 17th straight against the Iowa State Cyclones.
The final score of the game was 22-11, with a disqualification stall call that ended the dual, Iowa Athletic Communications reported.
“I thought the official did a really good job for the most part, and then completely lost all of his bearings in the last match,” Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser said, according to The Daily Iowan. “I don’t know if he let the other side get to him. He wanted to go home and he had to watch a movie tonight or something. I don’t know what was up with him but he obviously wanted that match over.
"I don’t know what was going on. Maybe you had to catch a flight or something but it was unbelievable, unbelievable with a capital U, right? That you end that match that fast.”
