The University of Iowa has landed 113 student-athletes on the 2021 Big Ten Fall Academic All-Conference team.
Nine men’s cross country athletes, 17 women’s cross country athletes, 17 field hockey athletes, 40 football athletes, 19 women’s soccer athletes and 11 volleyball athletes represented the Hawkeyes on the list, according to a school issued press release.
“The Big Ten Conference recognized 1,823 fall sports athletes,” the release said. “The list includes 161 field hockey players, 699 football players, 151 men’s and 221 women’s cross country runners, 157 men’s and 281 women’s soccer student-athletes and 153 volleyball players.”
To qualify for the team, students must be on a varsity team, have been enrolled full time at the institution for at least a calendar year, and post a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
Iowa said on its website that at least five teams either tied or set records.
The men’s cross country, women’s cross country and field hockey programs all had school record totals, while the volleyball team surpassed their most honorees for a second straight season, according to the release.
It’s the second consecutive season and third time in program history the women’s soccer team tied a university record, the release added.
The football team’s 40 honorees are second-most all-time for the Big Ten West Division champion, which will face Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl.
