Born in Story City, Iowa, Nunn has been an active political figure with prior experience in both the Iowa House of Representatives and the Iowa Senate.

On February 6, 2025, Congressman Nunn addressed the issue of fentanyl poisoning. He stated that it is "now the number one cause of death for Americans from my daughter’s age to my age," expressing that this situation is "unacceptable." Nunn announced his vote for the HALT Fentanyl Act as a measure to "save lives and protect our communities from this dangerous drug!" The following day, on February 7, 2025, he highlighted his meeting with Stuart Swanson, President of Iowa Corn. He posed a question regarding Canon's preference between attending University of Iowa or Iowa State University: "Which do you think he picked? #goISU or #goIOWA ??"
