Computer models show that COVID-19 spread is decreasing, according to Des Moines Register.
"Iowans were traveling, college students were returning home and many people were headed to and from vacation locations across the globe,” Yumou Qiu, assistant professor of statistics at Iowa State, said according to the Des Moines Register. He is part of the team of researchers at Iowa State University who compiled the statistics.
The decline, according to the researchers, indicates that the social distancing measures are effective.
“Social distancing has made a significant impact in Iowa to slow the spread,” Qiu said. “But Iowa’s battle with COVID-19 continues to develop and change rapidly.”
However, as long as the disease remains present in Iowa, social distancing continues.
The data shows a 50% decrease since the peak on March 16. The team checks the values every day. He said that factors such as population density and the state's mitigation strategy cause the variation in different regions.
