The State of Iowa as a whole is starting to see a decrease in daily COVID-19 cases, according to ABC.
However, one part of the state isn't seeing much change at all. The Iowa Department of Public Health said that it is seeing 2,500 cases of COVID-19 in Polk County.
Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie said that he thinks opening up his section of the state would be premature.
"Medical direction tells us we need to have two weeks of a downturn before we should lessen any of our restrictions," Cownie told ABC. "We haven't seen it, and we're not yet sure when the surge is gonna peak."
According to city leaders, they have concluded that the city loses $18 million every two months as the city remains in lockdown.
Back on March 15, Des Moines put restrictions in place. Officials predict that the city will observe millions in additional losses in future months if the lockdown remains active.
