A peaceful protest march happened over the weekend in Des Moines that was put together by Mothers Against Violence, the Des Moines Register reported.
With a protest that turned violent the previous evening in the city, Mothers Against Violence wanted to stress their protest march was to remain peaceful.
"This is supposed to be peaceful,” Sylvia Jefferson, who is with the organization, told the news agency. “We’re trying to show that we can support each other.”
Jefferson also noted there were more than 1,000 protesters involved in the march. The protesters chanted several things during their march, including "Black Lives Matter," "We can't breathe," "Say his name," and "Hands up, don't shoot," the news agency reported.
"Everybody here took a side," Will Robinson of Project H.O.P.E., told the news agency. "We're standing on the right side."
Another protester, Leigha Philips, told the news agency that she wanted to set a good example for her kids and for them to know how to stand up for important things.
