An Iowa judge struck down a petition against a law that bans county auditors from correcting ballots cast with errors on them, according to CBS 2 Iowa.

This petition contends that a county auditor should be able to use a database to correct ballots that would otherwise not count that contain spelling and punctuation errors. The judge found that the law is sound and constitutional, and does not infringe upon voting rights.

The petition was filed by a group that helps to gain more influence and access for Latin voters, who are often the victim of these types of errors on ballots. Opponents of the petition contend that this correction process could not only lead to voter fraud but also be a drain on the resources of the county. The group filed an appeal, but was swiftly defeated, meaning the law stands and country auditors may not use a database to correct ballots cast with incorrect information.
