Of the 215,636 people living in Des Moines in 2019, 50.7 percent (109,320) were women and 49.3 percent (106,316) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the Des Moines Sun.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by a ratio of 69,334-to-69,129. In the 65 and over age range, there were 15,118 females and 10,774 males.
