The new maps that draw out where the boundary lines are for Iowa's legislative and congressional districts were officially signed into law by Gov. Kim Reynolds on Nov. 4.

The state's redistricting process takes place every decade once population data from the nationwide census is released by the U.S. Census Bureau, according to Radio Iowa. The state legislature approved the bill drawing out the maps at the end of last month.

"REDISTRICTING, KEEPS THINGS IN BALANCE ... TRUMP 2024," Steven Wendell wrote in a post in the Kossuth County Republicans Facebook group Nov. 5.

Reynolds signature finalized the redistricting process. She addressed the new law in a tweet, writing "I am confident in how the process played out — just as the law intended, and I believe these new districts will fairly and accurately represent the citizens of Iowa for the next decade."

U.S. News reported the redistricting process was complicated this time around because data from the U.S. Census Bureau came in late, which delayed the process and extended it beyond the state's constitutional deadlines.

The new maps take effect starting with the 2022 elections through the 2030 elections when the next census will take place, according to Radio Iowa.
