A brilliant show of offensive force on the road against Utah State earned University of Iowa sophomore forward Keegan Murray Big Ten Player of the Week honors.
The 6-foot-8, 225-pound Murray scored a career-high 35 points in the 94-75 win over the Aggies on Dec. 18, according to a release issued by the Hawkeyes men’s basketball team.
Half of those points came during a six-minute span in the first half.
“The native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, also totaled a game-best seven rebounds and had two steals, one block and an assist,” the university said on its website. “The Hawkeyes were +22 when Murray was on the court against the Aggies.”
It’s the second time Murray has been named the conference’s Player of the Week. He was also named Nov. 22.
In what’s shaping to be a breakout season, Murray leads the country in scoring in points per game (23.5); is 41st in blocks per contest (2.1); 42nd in free throws made (47); and 49th in field goal percentage (.572), according to the university.
South Iowa News reported that Murray was one of Iowa’s Student-Athletes of the Month for November.
The forward was the nation’s leading scorer last month, according to the publication.
