City of Des Moines Public Works crews are preparing to treat Des Moines roads during the first snowstorm of the winter.
"We are forecasted to get less than the threshold for plowing Des Moines neighborhoods, so we'll be focusing on our 750 miles of snow routes," Public Works Director Jonathan Gano said. "The snow routes are the most efficient ways to get around Des Moines and they are designed so no resident is more than four blocks from a snow route."
If more snow than expected lands in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon, crews will be prepared to enter the rest of Des Moines residential streets to clear the roads.
However, the snow won't stay light for long. Public Works is anticipating a snowfall that will necessitate a full snow removal operation this weekend.
With any snow storm this season, Des Moines visitors and residents can track plowing progress and stay prepared for winter weather at DMSnow.org or by following @dmdpw on Twitter and Des Moines Public Works on Facebook. Residents may also opt in to receive text alerts by texting DMSNOW to 96000.
