Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's 3rd congressional district, shared updates on community projects and national security issues through a series of posts on November 7, 2025.
In one post, Nunn highlighted local efforts in Perry, Iowa: "Team Nunn joined local leaders in Perry this week to break ground on a new wetlands restoration project. This is a great investment in Perry's future to prevent flooding, restore native habitats, and create new recreation opportunities for families." (November 7, 2025). The wetlands restoration project aims to address environmental challenges while enhancing recreational options for residents.
Later the same day, Nunn addressed concerns from small business owners about the ongoing government shutdown. He wrote: "Things we heard at this week's shutdown impact small business roundtable:
- Major construction projects have stalled
- Critical small business loans are on hold
- Less money is coming in the door
- Uncertainty is making it harder to plan for the future
Republicans have said" (November 7, 2025). According to the congressman, local businesses are experiencing delays in construction and loan approvals as well as increased uncertainty due to the shutdown.
In another post later that evening, Nunn thanked federal officials for addressing foreign threats to American agriculture: "THANK YOU @SecRollins, @FBIDirectorKash, @AGPamBondi for holding CCP agents accountable for targeting heartland farmers and the American food supply.
Let's get the government open so we can push forward my agroterrorism bill, the PLANT Act, to increase penalties and put these" (November 7, 2025). Nunn referenced his support for legislation called the PLANT Act aimed at increasing penalties related to agroterrorism.
The concerns expressed by Congressman Nunn come amid a period when federal government shutdowns have historically led to disruptions in public services and delays in economic activity. Shutdowns can halt infrastructure development and impede financial assistance programs essential for small businesses. Efforts such as wetland restoration projects are often funded or supported through federal partnerships that may be affected during lapses in government operations. Additionally, there has been growing bipartisan attention on securing America’s agricultural sector against foreign interference and threats.
