Iowa State University's head men's basketball coach, T.J. Otzelberger, announced the addition of Georgetown transfer Tre King to the team, according to a release from Iowa State Athletic Communications.
A 6-foot-7-inch power forward from Lexington, Kentucky, King had previously spent three seasons at Eastern Kentucky before transferring to Georgetown, although he never played in a game while on the Hoyas' roster.
“Tre will provide an immediate impact to our program with the combination of his character, versatility and experience,” Otzelberger said in the release.
During last season with Eastern Kentucky, King participated in 28 games, averaging 14.9 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting approximately 50% from the floor and earning All-OVC first-team honors, according to Cyclone Fanatic.
“He has the unique ability to shoot the three, make plays attacking closeouts, as well as finish through contact at the rim," Otzelberger said.
Additionally, King was one of just three players in the nation to have at least 30 blocks and 40 thefts on defense in 2020-21.
"He can guard multiple positions and be an impactful rebounder," Otzelberger said. "We’re excited to have Tre enhance the competition of our practice environment each day.”
Because King is a midseason transfer, he will not be able to play until 2023, although he still has two years of eligibility remaining due to the COVID year.
