Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's 3rd Congressional District, shared updates on social media on November 4, 2025, highlighting the effects of the ongoing government shutdown on various sectors in Iowa.
In a post from the morning of November 4, Nunn described his participation in an event honoring Tim “Heater” Cunningham. He wrote: "Honored to join Iowa veterans this morning to recognize Tim “Heater” Cunningham — Navy Seabee, A-7 combat aviator, and longtime Des Moines police officer. We shared stories, honored Tim's memory, and talked about the uncertainty the government shutdown is causing: Iowa's Air" (November 4, 2025).
Later that day, Nunn addressed challenges facing local agriculture due to the shutdown. He stated: "Iowa’s farmers are seeing big crop yields this season, but the government shutdown is making things harder. USDA offices are closed, relief payments are delayed, and there is still uncertainty in the markets. It was great to join @MikeNaigIA and local producers today to talk" (November 4, 2025). The closure of U.S. Department of Agriculture offices has disrupted services for farmers during a critical harvest period.
In another update posted that evening after visiting Drake University’s Head Start program, Nunn commented on early childhood education amid federal funding concerns: "Joined Drake University’s Head Start today to see firsthand how early learning sets kids up for success, not just in Iowa, but all across the country. While Drake's funding isn't currently at risk, the ongoing shutdown has impacted Head Start programs that serve more than 65,000" (November 4, 2025). Across the United States—including Iowa—federal funding interruptions have affected tens of thousands of children enrolled in Head Start programs.
The current government shutdown has led to widespread disruptions affecting public sector employees such as military personnel and law enforcement officers being recognized by Congressman Nunn; it has also caused delays in agricultural relief payments and interrupted educational services for young children through federally funded programs like Head Start.
