City of Des Moines recently issued the following announcement.
Representing Ward 1 on the City's northwest side, community activist Indira Sheumaker took the oath of office tonight and became the newest member of the Des Moines City Council. Voters elected Sheumaker last November.
At tonight's meeting, Sheumaker was appointed to three committees: the IMPACT Community Action Partnership, the Homeless Coordinating Council and as an alternate member of the Metro Waste Authority.
Others sworn in tonight include At-Large Councilwoman Connie Boesen and Ward 3 Councilman Josh Mandelbaum who were both reelected last fall to second terms.
