City of Des Moines recently issued the following announcement.
Des Moines residents, it's time to start thinking about spring. Tiny Trees 2022 orders opened this morning and Des Moines residents can now place their orders for up to five free trees to be picked up this spring.
"Tiny Trees is always one of my favorite events," Des Moines City Forester Shane McQuillan said. "It's a great way to spread excitement about trees. There's no better feeling than seeing thousands of trees go out in a single day to be planted across Des Moines."
Tiny Trees has given away thousands of trees annually since it began in 2017, and last year's event gave away over 10,000 trees for the first time.
"I've planted several Tiny Trees in my own yard," Public Works Director Jonathan Gano said. "It's been great to watch them grow and flourish through the years all over this City. These trees are making a very real impact on our urban forest already and it's only going to improve as this program continues."
This year, residents will be able to choose from eight tree species including five that were not offered last year. The Tiny Trees 2022 species are River Birch, Swamp White Oak, Sycamore, Chinkapin Oak, Elderberry, Redbud, Wild Plum and Bald Cypress. Orders can be placed at DSM.city/TinyTrees.
