Enhance Iowa Board Awards Sports Tourism Grants to Des Moines and Bettendorf

At today’s meeting, the Enhance Iowa Board awarded $18,000 in Sports Tourism grants to a professional swim meet in Des Moines and a youth softball tournament in Bettendorf.

The details for the projects receiving Sports Tourism grants are as follows: 

Event Name: 2023 Tyr Pro Swim Series, Des Moines

Event Dates: March 2023

Total Project Budget: $10,000

Amount Awarded: $5,000

Description: Promotional efforts will include targeted social media advertisements, billboards, television advertising, and collaborations with Catch Des Moines and the Greater Des Moines Partnership to expand the visibility of the event in downtown Des Moines.

Event Name: Youth softball tournament, Bettendorf

Event Dates: September 22-24, 2023

Total Project Budget: $26,000

Amount Awarded: $13,000

Description: A video will be created to showcase the TBK Bank Sports Complex, destination and amenities available to those that attend. Digital advertising, website, social media and email advertising campaigns will be utilized to promote the event to teams outside the Quad Cities.

The Sports Tourism program provides financial assistance for projects that market or promote sporting events in Iowa. Eligible sporting events include professional, collegiate and amateur level sporting events that occur in Iowa. Funding for the program was appropriated during the 2021 legislative session.

The Enhance Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. To date, 99 Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants have been awarded by the board, totaling $31,508,183. The next Enhance Iowa Board meeting is scheduled for August 4, 2022.
