Media Advisory: DMACC President Rob Denson to Promote Trucking Jobs by Hauling Kent Feed from Altoona to Waterloo

WHO:

DMACC President Rob Denson will spotlight the need for more truck drivers and the College’s marketing plans to recruit more students to the DMACC Transportation Institute by personally hauling Kent Feed from Altoona to Waterloo on Tues., Oct. 4.

President Denson, likely the only college or university president in the nation who uses his CDL to regularly drive both semi and fire trucks, will begin the day by transporting Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds from the Iowa State Capitol to Kent Feed’s Altoona location. They will be met in Altoona by Gage Kent, Kent Corporation Chairman and CEO; other Kent executives; and Ben McLean, CEO of Ruan Transportation Management Systems, for a send-off event that marks the formal launch of a new student recruitment campaign by the DMACC Transportation Institute.

WHAT:

President Denson will drive a Freightliner semi truck loaded with cattle feed from Kent Nutrition Group’s Altoona facility to the company’s Waterloo location. Freightliner of Des Moines is supplying the tractor, and Ruan Transportation is providing the trailer. The drive coincides with Iowa Manufacturing Week and the need for more truck drivers to move Iowa products to market. It also marks a personal note for President Denson — the 54th anniversary of his first job driving trucks for Kent Feeds from its Altoona facility to help pay his way through college.
