DES MOINES, IOWA — Des Moines’ history and culture was shaped by its pioneer women.

This Saturday, residents can visit their final resting places and learn about how they created the Des Moines we live in today.

Des Moines Parks and Recreation is hosting its first ever Notable Women of Early Des Moines Cemetery Tour which will be offered four times at Woodland Cemetery this summer. The tour will discuss the projects these women championed like preschools, a public art gallery, the first free public library and the first city plan.

The 1 1/2 mile walking tour will be led by Lorna Truck and Kat Rinken and will last approximately two hours.
