DES MOINES, IOWA — Hundreds of Des Moines residents cycled through Polk County River Place last Saturday as the City of Des Moines Public Works Department gave away thousands of free Tiny Trees.

Those who weren't able to attend the pickup event will have another chance to take home their own Tiny Trees this Saturday at City Hall (400 Robert D. Ray Drive) from 8 a.m. until noon, or until supplies run out.

"While we had a huge turnout on Saturday, we still have some trees left for residents," said City Forester Shane McQuillan. "We do ask that that you park your vehicle and walk up to City Hall to keep traffic flowing smoothly this Saturday."

Orders are not required for the second-chance pickup. No specific tree species will be guaranteed and the leftover trees will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Tiny Trees program began in 2017 as a way to include Des Moines residents in the expansion of the City's urban tree canopy at no cost to them.
