Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has expressed approval following the Supreme Court's recent decision in Trump v. CASA, Inc., which ruled 6-3 against the practice of universal injunctions. The court concluded that such injunctions "likely exceed the equitable authority that Congress has given to federal courts."

Grassley commented on the ruling, stating, "Today’s decision is a significant step towards addressing the bipartisan problem of universal injunctions. I’m heartened to hear a supermajority of the Supreme Court echo what I’ve said repeatedly: judges’ constitutional authority is limited to deciding cases and controversies." He emphasized that universal injunctions challenge the nation's system of checks and balances.

The ruling supports Grassley's ongoing efforts as Judiciary Chairman to limit what he views as judicial overreach. He mentioned securing provisions in Republicans' legislative proposal, One Big Beautiful Bill, designed to aid the Department of Justice in opposing universal injunctions. These measures include hiring additional federal attorneys, tracking metrics on universal injunctions, and implementing judicial training programs.

Grassley is also advancing his Judicial Relief Clarification Act to restrict federal court orders solely to parties directly involved in cases, thereby ending universal injunction practices.
