The Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously approved the Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery Act of 2025. The legislation, introduced by Senators John Cornyn and Richard Blumenthal, with Chairman Chuck Grassley as a cosponsor, is designed to help Holocaust survivors reclaim artwork taken from them. The bill aims to ensure that legal cases regarding stolen art are decided based on their merits rather than being dismissed due to procedural technicalities.

In addition to advancing the legislation, the committee voted 13-9 in favor of Thomas Ferguson III's nomination for U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

Senator Grassley commented on the bill’s intent: "The bipartisan bill would help reunite Holocaust survivors with their stolen artwork by ensuring that their cases are adjudicated on the merits and procedural loopholes don’t stand in the way of justice."
