The HALT Fentanyl Act is intended to address the opioid crisis by making permanent the classification of certain synthetic opioids as Schedule I substances. The act aims to aid law enforcement and public health agencies in controlling fentanyl analogues. Bipartisan support was key in passing this legislation.

Additionally, funding from recent federal infrastructure laws has been allocated for flood mitigation and related projects in Cedar Rapids. These investments are part of broader efforts to strengthen community resilience against natural disasters and improve public infrastructure nationwide.
