Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives, recently addressed agricultural and transportation issues affecting his state through a series of posts on social media.

On July 23, 2025, Nunn expressed appreciation for local truck drivers and highlighted legislative efforts to support them: "Thank you to Iowa's truckers for keeping our shelves stocked and Iowa's economy moving forward. Proud to advocate for key investments in local CDL programs and to lead on bipartisan legislation to help drivers cover rising expenses."

Later that day, he commented on California's Proposition 12, stating its negative impact on Iowa farmers and consumers: "California's Prop 12 is unworkable for Iowa producers. It's hitting consumers in the grocery store with higher prices and making it impossible for farmers to sell their product across state lines. We're fighting back on @HouseAgGOP against these kinds of blue state mandates."

On July 24, 2025, Nunn reiterated his opposition to the measure: "One state shouldn’t control how the country farms. California’s Prop 12 is forcing Iowa farmers to follow California rules—raising costs, hurting producers, and limiting food choices for families. I’m fighting to stop this overreach and protect Iowa agriculture."

Proposition 12 is a California law that sets minimum space requirements for farm animals whose products are sold within the state, regardless of where they are produced. This regulation has been controversial among out-of-state producers such as those in Iowa, who argue that compliance increases production costs and complicates interstate commerce.

The issue has attracted national attention due to concerns about its broader economic impact. Farmers outside California have raised objections that laws like Proposition 12 could create fragmented regulations across states, increasing operational challenges for agricultural businesses.
