Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's 3rd congressional district, posted a series of statements on his social media account in early August 2025 addressing international security and agricultural threats.

On August 1, Nunn addressed U.S. policy toward Russia and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He stated, "Every barrel of Russian oil bought under the table fuels another missile strike in Ukraine. We're leading a tough sanctions package to hold Putin accountable, cut off the illicit funds, and give President Trump real leverage to bring Russia to the table."

The following day, he raised concerns about foreign threats to American agriculture. In a post dated August 2, Nunn wrote, "CCP agroterrorism threatens Iowa family farms and America’s food supply. Our PLANT Act creates real consequences for Chinese operatives attempting to bring deadly pathogens into the U.S." The PLANT Act is proposed legislation aimed at deterring biosecurity threats from foreign actors by increasing penalties for attempts to introduce harmful biological agents into U.S. agriculture.

Later on August 2, Nunn discussed potential security risks posed by China regarding Taiwan. He stated, "If the CCP invades Taiwan, it would send shockwaves through our economy and put U.S. security at risk. That’s why we're working to strengthen Taiwan’s defense—so we deter China before conflict starts and protect Iowa's economy." Heightened tensions between China and Taiwan have prompted calls among some U.S. lawmakers for increased support for Taiwan's defense capabilities.

Congressman Zach Nunn has been an advocate for both national security measures abroad and protection of domestic agricultural interests at home.
