Chuck Grassley discusses veterans’ event, Ukraine aid bill, and trafficking hotline oversight

Senator Chuck Grassley shared updates on veterans' recognition, legislative efforts to support Ukraine, and oversight of the National Human Trafficking Hotline in a series of posts on September 23, 2025.

In his first post, Grassley acknowledged the participation of his staff in welcoming veterans: "While I’m in Iowa my staff enjoyed greeting 88 veterans this morning on the Eastern IA Honor Flight THX 4 Your Service" (September 23, 2025).

Later that day, Grassley discussed bipartisan legislative action regarding support for Ukraine. He wrote: "I introd bipart legislation w Sens Risch & Whitehouse that builds on our REPO for Ukrainians Act which became law last yr Our bill repurposes seized frozen Russian assets in USA & uses them 2 help Ukraine Ukraine needs our support to defeat Putin" (September 23, 2025). The REPO for Ukrainians Act refers to previous legislation enabling the U.S. government to transfer certain seized Russian assets to aid Ukraine.

Grassley also addressed recent changes at the National Human Trafficking Hotline following his oversight activities. He stated: "Scty Kennedy took action following my oversight & HHS is now parting ways w the contractor who failed 2effectively operate the Natl Human Trafficking Hotline The new hotline provider shld learn frm past mistakes& work closely with police to protect/serve survivors" (September 23, 2025). Oversight of federal programs is a routine responsibility for members of Congress, who may call attention to perceived shortcomings and advocate for administrative changes.

Grassley has served as a U.S. Senator from Iowa since 1981 and is known for his involvement in legislative oversight and bipartisan initiatives.
