U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has commented on the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. In a statement released from Butler County, Iowa, Grassley addressed the situation in light of ongoing congressional investigations at the time of the alleged offenses.

“At the time of Comey’s alleged false statements and obstruction, my colleagues and I had active investigations. If the facts and the evidence support the finding that Comey lied to Congress and obstructed our work, he ought to be held accountable,” Grassley stated.

The indictment relates to accusations that Comey made false statements and interfered with congressional proceedings while serving as director of the FBI.
