Congressman Zach Nunn, who represents Iowa's 3rd congressional district, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and the actions of Senate Democrats.
On October 3, 2025, Nunn wrote, "It's day 3 of the Democrat Shutdown, and Senate Democrats are still demanding health care for illegal immigrants before they hand over their votes to open the government."
Later that same day, he posted another update: "Our week in review is a little different. Right now, the Senate can't reach the 60-vote threshold to reopen the government because a few partisan Democrats are demanding $1T+ in partisan spending. It's time to end the gridlock and pass the House's clean continuing resolution."
The following day, on October 4, Nunn highlighted his office’s efforts during the shutdown: "Team Nunn is in Creston, Ottumwa, Des Moines, and Washington, D.C., working to keep Iowans connected to the services they rely on. From expediting passports to assisting with VA benefits and Social Security delays, we’re here to help you navigate this shutdown."
The current government shutdown began after Congress failed to agree on funding legislation by the deadline at midnight on September 30. Disagreements between House Republicans and Senate Democrats have centered around federal spending levels and policy provisions related to immigration and healthcare. The requirement for a 60-vote threshold in the Senate means bipartisan cooperation is necessary for any funding bill to advance.
Zach Nunn was elected as U.S. Representative for Iowa’s 3rd district in November 2022.
