Senator Chuck Grassley has posted several comments on social media regarding the ongoing federal government shutdown, which he refers to as the "Schumer Shutdown." In his tweets, Grassley highlights concerns about the impact of the shutdown on airline operations and essential services, as well as its effects on Iowans.

On November 1, 2025, Grassley stated, "The airlines want the Schumer Shutdown to end bc it’s impacting operations across our nation Passengers want the safe & on time flight they pay for GOV SHLD OPEN TO HELP W THAT +many other essential services". He emphasized that passengers expect reliable and safe air travel and called for the government to reopen to address these needs.

The following day, November 2, 2025, Grassley noted the length of the shutdown with a brief message: "2day is day 33 of the Schumer Shutdown".

Later on November 2, Grassley commented on how the shutdown is affecting residents in his home state. He wrote, "Iowans are living their lives, working hard & raising their families. Their world doesn’t revolve around Congress

But guess what? Senate Democrats are taking away their food assistance as leverage for unrelated political demands".

Grassley's references to a "Schumer Shutdown" point to ongoing partisan disagreements in Congress over funding measures. Such shutdowns occur when lawmakers fail to pass appropriations bills or continuing resolutions needed to fund government operations. These impasses can disrupt federal agencies and services nationwide—including air travel—and have significant impacts on citizens who rely on government programs such as food assistance.

Grassley serves as a U.S. Senator representing Iowa and has been vocal about his concerns during previous government shutdowns.
