A record city council meeting was held in Des Moines when it continued for two days discussing police funding.
The 14-hour meeting lasted two days and heard dozens of people speak with concerns about police funding for ammunition and training, KCCI 8 reported.
It was a virtual meeting discussing the $99,000 police funding, which led many people participating in the meeting to shout and insult members of the council.
"Unfortunately, people making racist and vulgar remarks, we tried to cut it off quickly," Connie Boesen, a city council member, told KCCI 8.
Many people supporting Black Lives Matter were in attendance, including organizer Jaylen Cavil, who said his group touched on many areas of their agenda during the meeting. Approximately 26 Black Lives Matter members spoke during the meeting. They said they would be attending the Monday, Aug. 17 city council meeting as well.
Another group joined the meeting to call out racial slurs, KCCI 8 reported.
