CENTRAL PRESBYTRIAN CHURCH: A Service of Lessons & Carols

Christmas3

Central Presbyterian Church issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.

A special ‘Virtual’ Service of Lessons & Carols premieres Sunday, December 20! You won’t want to miss this musical online event!

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was first celebrated at King’s College, Cambridge on Christmas Eve, 1918. The nine Scripture lessons are those traditionally used at the festival and move from the season of Advent into Christmastide with carols and hymns accompanying each lesson. Here at Central this year, the Chancel Choir, Morgen Bells and many others will bring an online virtual service into your homes. Please join us on Sunday, December 20, at 3:00 p.m., on Central’s Facebook page and on YouTube at 3:15 p.m.

Music Director Rich Dewein is both conducting and producing this beloved tradition of A Service of Lessons & Carols. Complete with the 9 lessons, this service will include a variety of hymns and octavos from members and friends alike. Rich had this to say about the virtual choir experience, “Lois actually recorded the organ accompaniment back in October. Then our choir members were to record themselves singing their parts in their homes.”

Our reader will be Kevin Klimowski and Pastor Wallace will offer a greeting and prayers. Kim Coulter will edit together the special service interspersed with solos and instrumental numbers that both Kim and Rich have recorded this past month.

Join us for a memorable hour of music and scripture to help us live out the Advent spirit.
