Iowa State University's head football coach Matt Campbell recently held his first press conference of the season.
"'There is a standard of excellence on how we do everything. You can't hide here anymore,'” Campbell said, according to an Aug. 31 Iowa State Football Twitter post.
Campbell highlighted the strategies he implemented to encourage improvement among his team in the press conference.
Campbell touched on the new sports performance facility for the team and how it has benefited the athletes by improving their performance.
"To be able to move into this facility in early July, and be able to have a first-class training table for them, have a great locker room,” Campbell said. “To me, that's special because they've done a great job of using the weight room, using the training table, using those things to their benefit to become the best version of themselves they can be.”
In their first game of the season on Sept. 4, the Cyclones beat Northern Iowa 16-10 at Jack Trice Stadium, CBS Sports reported.
The athletic expert also shared details regarding Zeb Noland’s new position as QB for South Carolina. Campbell coached Noland three seasons at Iowa State. He said he believes that Noland’s acquisition will be a great asset for South Carolina.
"I think it makes sense that this opportunity came his way, and he was able to capitalize on it," Campbell said, according to CBS Sports. "So I'm excited for him. I'm a big fan."
After signing with Iowa State in 2016, Noland appeared in nine games for the Cyclones during which he scored four touchdowns, CBS Sports reported. He then transferred to North Dakota State in 2019 where he played 15 games over a span of two seasons. Noland was a graduate assistant coach for South Carolina this summer but became the team's starting quarterback for their season opener against Eastern Illinois Sept. 4.
