A proclamation extension for Iowa was recently issued to address weight lines and grain transportation.

Signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds, the extension went into effect Dec. 30, according to a release from the Office of the Governor.

"Today I signed an extension on the Harvest Proclamation, effective through Jan. 29, 2022," Reynolds said in a Dec. 30 tweet.

The proclamation applies to every load that is transported through highways within Iowa, excluding the interstate system, according to Iowa New Now.

"The 2021 grain harvest resulted in significant yields across Iowa," the proclamation said. " ... concerns over a timely harvest have resulted in large amounts of agricultural truck traffic throughout the state and has hastened the need for efficient and effective collection, transport and delivery of the harvest ...

"Strict compliance with the permit and fee requirements of Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 761-511 allowing overweigh divisible loads under certain circumstances will prevent or hinder efforts to cope with this time-sensitive harvest in all counties of our state."

The proclamation also applies to loads that do not exceed more than 90,000 pounds in gross weight, according toIowa News Now.

"The proclamation allows vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage and stover to be overweight (not exceeding 90,000 pounds gross weight) without a permit for the duration of this proclamation," according to the release.
