City of Des Moines recently issued the following announcement.
Des Moines Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that the “2021 Report to the Community” is now available. This report provides a high-level overview of many of the department’s significant accomplishments over the past year. Recreational program participation, facility usage, project information, testimonials and financial data can be found in the extensive summary.
“Found throughout the pages of the Report to the Community you will see participation numbers, trail counts and numerous data points about our operations,” said Benjamin R. Page, Director, Des Moines Parks and Recreation. “What you won’t see in this publication are the immeasurable impacts – the smiles of kids who just learned to swim, the joy experienced by a mother at her first baby shower, the pride felt by volunteers finishing a project or the high fives between players on a youth soccer team who were able to play because of our scholarship program.”
Highlights from 2021 include:
- 1,443 shelters and other facilities were rented
- 1,939 dog park permits were sold
- 3,268 individuals learned to swim
- 21,307 hours of service were donated by 2,873 volunteers, valued at $608,115
