Des Moines Police Department To Host Inaugural Women'S Leadership Conference

The Des Moines Police Department is hosting its first-ever women’s leadership conference this fall.

The Women Without Limits Leadership Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th at the Fred Maytag II Scout Center (6123 Scout Way) in Des Moines.

This conference is a part of the DMPD’s commitment to the 30x30 Initiative to increase the presence of women in law enforcement.

"This conference is meant to bring strong women together and inspire them with the stories of other strong, successful women,” DMPD Sergeant Lorna Garcia said. “We want women to walk out of the conference with confidence and concrete ideas about what success looks like for themselves."

The Women Without Limits Leadership Conference will feature speakers who have established themselves as leaders in the Des Moines area sharing their inspiring stories that led them to leadership success.

Speakers include:

  • Major Lillie Miller: First African-American female Major in DMPD history
  • Linda Carter-Lewis: Des Moines Civil Service Commission and former president of the NAACP
  • Teri Saenz: Automotive industry executive
  • Zuleyma “Z” Mendez: Founder of Knock and Drop Iowa
  • Sonya Heitshusen: Auditor of the State Office Public Information Officer, former news anchor

This conference is free to those who register. Attendees also receive a free boxed lunch with their ticket reservation.
