Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has sent letters to four major telecommunications companies and five federal entities, requesting that they provide Congress with all records that were given to former Special Counsel Jack Smith during his investigation into President Trump. The investigation, which operated under the codename “Arctic Frost,” began at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during the Biden administration.

Grassley’s recent oversight activities have revealed that Jack Smith and the FBI secretly subpoenaed phone records from nine Republican members of Congress, as well as records from 92 other Republican targets, as part of the Arctic Frost probe. Last week, Grassley led a group of lawmakers in asking the Department of Justice and the FBI to provide all records related to the targeting of congressional members during this investigation.

The letters were sent to telecommunications companies Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Lumen. Several senators and a representative co-signed the letters, including Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), and Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.).

Grassley and Johnson also sent requests to several federal entities: the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

In recent months, Grassley’s oversight work on Arctic Frost has resulted in several public releases and hearings. These include disclosures about FBI activities related to the investigation and requests for additional information from relevant agencies.
